Manchester United are said to be on the hunt for another big signing before the end of the transfer window - with two names often doing the rounds. It has been rumoured that the club want Arturo Vidal or William Carvalho to help bulk out their flimsy looking central midfield options.
However Vidal is now definitely not on the move. He has told Juventus he wants to stay at the club for the upcoming season, and the Bianconeri were more than happy to oblige.
The other player is of course the combative Portuguese international William Carvalho. It has been reported in the past that Carvalho to United was done - but the sacking of David Moyes seemed to end those rumours. But with Arsenal said to be lurking and his price-tag dropping to around £24 million United have again been mentioned as a possible destination for the talented dynamo.
At the moment United seem to be focusing their attention on getting players out of the exit door. The likes of Shinji Kagawa, Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck and Anderson have all been told they can leave - Nani and Wilfried Zaha have already gone.
This is likely to be a cost cutting exercise, as the club have spent plenty of cash this summer. It is also good to have the odd spring clean, United certainly have plenty of cobwebs to remove from the Theatre of Dreams.
But according to a report today it would appear that Manchester United are not keen on Carvalho regardless of how much money they earn selling their talent over the weekend into Monday.
Latest info from #MUFC - and always reluctant to post these - is that there will be nothing happening with them and Vidal/Carvalho— Daniel Taylor (@DTguardian) August 29, 2014
United now denying interest in Carvalho, days after briefing of interest in Carvalho. Take everything with a pinch of salt.— Patrick Mather (@mather23) August 29, 2014
It could be van Gaal has his eyes on another target, such as a January move for Kevin Strootman, or that after the protracted negotiations with Sporting Lisbon over Marcos Rojo the club do not wish to do business with them again.
Either way it seems Arsenal now have a free shot at getting Carvalho should they wish.
Should United be after Carvalho?
