Norwich and Stoke ask after Lazio defender

Lazio centre-back Michaël Ciani has attracted attention from Norwich City and Stoke City, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

French defender Michaël Ciani is likely to leave Lazio before the transfer window closes and the Premier League is looking like a possible destination.

The 30-year-old has been with Lazio since 2012 but has only made 34 total appearances and is struggling to stake his claim for first-team football.

New boss Stefano Pioli, who took over the reins at the start of July, has made clear his plan to streamline the squad and Ciani is seen as dispensable.

Reports in La Gazzetta dello Sport today state that Lazio have had approaches from Norwich and Stoke, but they are yet to get to the formal offer stage.

Ciani would probably jump at the chance to test himself in England having spent much of his career in his native France and most of recent times warming Lazio's bench.

He has been linked with Norwich in the past as well as Cardiff City and Crystal Palace.

The ex-Bordeaux man's contract at Lazio expires in June 2016 and he is widely valued at somewhere between £1 million and £2 million.
