Following in the tracks of Skylanders and Disney Infinity, Nintendo's Amiibo characters are coming to the Wii U sometime in winter this year.
Nintendo's Amiibo's work slightly differently to the Disney Infinity and Skylanders figurines, as the characters use near field communication (NFC) chips, which communicate with the Wii U when placed near to it, meaning they don't need any kind of base or platform.
The Amiibos will also bring new features to a number of Nintendo games spanning the Wii U, and a 3DS peripheral is due in 2015 too. Initially the characters are set to interact with the upcoming Super Smash Bros. on Wii U.
The first set of characters will comprise of Mario, Peach, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Kirby, Fox, Marth, Villager, and the Wii Fit Trainer. More characters will be available in the future.
Each character has been priced at $12.99 each, and you can pre-order them on Amazon.com now.
