A selection of the latest news involving Liverpool Football Club this Friday morning.
Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson is convinced the club have spent wisely this summer after bringing in nine players for £116 million during the transfer window following the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona for £75 million.
Henderson was impressed with two players in particular who made their debuts against Manchester City on Monday night, despite the side losing 3-1 to the reigning champions at the Etihad Stadium.
The midfielder is quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “Alberto Moreno got plenty of crosses in and Lazar Markovic came on later in the game and looked very sharp and confident.
“I thought they were brilliant and we’ve still got Mario Balotelli to come into the side too so hopefully he can play some part at the weekend."
He said: “There have been some talks and I should be signing a new contract soon.
“It would be reward for all the hard work I’ve put in. It would be great for me and great for my family as well.
“All I’ve ever wanted is to play for Liverpool and I want to stay here for as long as I possibly can.”
Liverpool confirmed yesterday evening that young left-back Jack Robinson has left the club to join Queens Park Rangers for a fee believed to be around £1 million.
Robinson has been sent on loan to Huddersfield Town after completing his transfer to Loftus Road.
Their first game in the competition since 2009 will be against Bulgarian champions Ludogorets at Anfield on September 16, with the group stage also concluding at Anfield against FC Basel on December 9. The games against Real take place on October 22 and November 4 - with the first meeting taking place at Anfield.
