Arsenal have been handed a tough Champions League group, which includes German giants Borussia Dortmund.
Arsenal have been handed a difficult test in the Champions League group stage although Arsene Wenger will back his side to get the better of Borussia Dortmund, Galatasaray and Anderlecht.
The Gunners secured a narrow 1-0 win earlier this week to reach this stage of the competition, thanks to a single goal from new signing Alexis Sanchez.
This is a competition that Wenger has managed to qualify for in every season he’s been at the club but he’s never managed to get over the winning line, with the closest the Gunners have come to a victory being their runners-up achievement in 2006.
Dortmund will provide the strongest competition to Arsenal for the winner’s spot in Group D.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have plenty of talented players in their squad including the likes of Mats Hummels and a midfielder Arsenal have been linked with signing, Marco Reus.
Galatasaray will also fancy their chances if they can make the most of their home games in the group stage.
Turkey is notoriously one of the most difficult places for any side to travel to but Arsenal have recent experience with their trip to Besiktas and they won’t feel intimidated.
Anderlecht are probably going to be considered the weakest team in this group and Arsenal will more than likely target the Belgian side for six points.
They have some extremely talented players and a good youth system but whether they have enough to sneak second place and fight their way out of this group is extremely doubtful.
Arsenal will want to win this group because their failure to finish at the top of their group has led to difficult last 16 matches over the past couple of seasons and Wenger knows if his team can get to the last eight, anything can happen.
Here’s what Arsenal fans made of the draw on Twitter.
I'm glad we'll get two great games vs Dortmund but what's the point of being a pot 1 team if we draw them every season?— Planet Arsenal (@Planet_Arsenal) August 28, 2014
