Tottenham Hotspur confirmed the official arrival of Federico Fazio from Sevilla yesterday afternoon but it appears the deal may have been official long before the announcement.
Tottenham’s new £8 million defender has already been training with the club as Mauricio Pochettino mulls over whether to throw him straight into the squad for this weekend’s game against Liverpool.
It would be a risk because of the greater pace of Premier League football compared to La Liga and it would also be a risk considering his apparent lack of match fitness.
However, Fazio arrives at White Hart Lane with a strong reputation as someone who can replace many of the positive qualities lost through the departure of Michael Dawson.
He adds experience to the back four and will be determined to prove that he can cut it at Premier League level.
He’ll have at least two more sessions over the course of today and tomorrow as he bids to be fit for the huge clash at White Hart Lane, which will dictate where Spurs finish by the end of the campaign.
