Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose has been handed an unexpected England call-up.
Ashley Cole's retirement, as well as injuries to Luke Shaw, Kieran Gibbs leaves the Three Lions short of back-up for Leighton Baines.
Rose had a poor season for Tottenham last season, and his call-up is surprising for those who have not seen him play this campaign, for the left-back has actually enjoyed a pretty good start.
Knowing his place is under pressure from new signing Ben Davies, Rose has upped his game as part of a Tottenham backline which has kept clean sheets against West Ham and QPR.
Whether the former under-21 international is capable of stepping it up against higher quality opposition remains to be seen, and England manager Roy Hodgson is at leas curious enough to take a look.
Rose is one of several new faces in the England squad, along with Jack Colback, Fabian Delph and Calum Chambers.
New Spurs signing Eric Dier, who has arguably out-performed Chambers, can be considered unlucky not to be included.
Here is a look at how fans reacted on Twitter to Rose's call-up...

Good luck to him and all that, BUT.....it tell us an awful lot about the current England team when Danny Rose gets a call up #COYS— Blackmore Spur (@blackmorespur) August 27, 2014
Not sure an England call up was expected but Danny Rose has been excellent in the first 2 games. Place under threat and hoped his game #coys— David Thomas (@davlathom) August 28, 2014
