Alexis Sanchez grabbed the only goal of the game against Besiktas to send Arsenal through to the Champions League group stages.
Arsenal are in pot one for the draw later this afternoon but the question on the lips of many Arsenal fans today will be, can Sanchez replace Giroud up front for the long term?
That’s the question that Goal.com has put to Gunners everywhere in an online poll and the answer is only slightly in favour of yes he can.
At the time of writing, 55.4% of those who took part said Sanchez can play up front and replace Giroud (Injured for three months with an ankle problem) while the remainder suggested they still want to see Arsene Wenger add a player in the transfer market.
Wenger has already ruled out a move for Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck and has suggested that Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski will not be allowed to leave the club before Monday’s transfer deadline.
Sanchez was effective through the middle for Chile at the World Cup and once he gets used to playing centrally for the Gunners, he could add to his goal tally, putting pressure on Giroud as the Frenchman edges closer to full fitness.
