Match to be played on Saturday 30th August 2014 at 17:30. Venue: Goodison Park, Liverpool.
This is arguably a much tougher test for Jose Mourinho’s new look side after relatively comfortable victories against Burnley and Leicester City in their opening two games.
We’ve attempted to name the side Mourinho could go with for the match.
GK – Thibaut Courtois
The young Belgian has looked impressive since he was installed as the club’s number one by Mourinho. He starts.
RB – Branislav Ivanovic
The defender continues to be effective from the right hand side, which will more than likely convince Mourinho to keep him there.
CB – Gary Cahill
Cahill has looked in decent form so far this season and there’s no reason to move him from the middle of the defence.
CB – John Terry
Terry injects experience into the back four and he’ll be fresh having had a week to recover after the Leicester game.
LB – Cesar Azpilicueta
Azpilicueta’s form continues to prevent Filipe Luis from a Premier League debut. The Spaniard is effective at both ends of the pitch.
RM – Willian
Andre Schurrle picked up a leg injury in the game against Leicester, which saw him subbed off. If he doesn’t recover, Willian will step in.
DM – Nemanja Matic
Matic is an imposing and experienced figure to have patrolling the space in front of the back four and offering extra protection.
CM – Cesc Fabregas
Fabregas has been in great form for the Blues already this season. He can sit and hold in the middle as well as getting forward into areas the number ten would play.
AM – Oscar
Mourinho likes Oscar because he works his socks off. He hasn’t been at his best yet this season but he’s another player who can win this game in an instant.
LM – Eden Hazard
Hazard is at his best when he has the ball at his feet and when he can run at opponents. He could relish the chance to counter attack.
ST – Didier Drogba
Reports suggest Diego Costa has suffered a hamstring problem, which could mean a Premier League start for the Blues legend. It's a shame as Costa has been in great form.
Who should Mourinho start against Everton?
