Mario Balotelli has taken to Instragram to say that he is excited to make his home debut, following his move to Liverpool.
Balotelli joined Brendan Rodgers’ side from AC Milan for a £16 million fee earlier this week and he is clearly already thinking about playing at Anfield.
The Italian striker posted a message to the club’s fans on social media site Instagram saying: “Looking forward to play in the liverpool's fans warm support of Anfield!”
It reiterates the point which he made in the first interview he did upon signing for the Reds, where he stated that the atmosphere at Anfield had made it a hard place to go to when he had previously played there as an opposition player.
“When I play with this team [at Anfield], it's going to be nice for sure,” he previously said to the club’s official site. “To play here for Liverpool excites me, but if you're an opponent it's difficult.”
Balotelli will have to wait for a while yet before his home debut, though.
It is likely to come against Aston Villa on September 13th, after the international break, and he will be required to refocus his attention on the side’s weekend fixture at White Hart Lane first.
Liverpool take on Tottenham Hotspur this Sunday, with the charismatic front-man set to make his first appearance.
He will be required to adapt quickly, as Rodgers’ men look to re-find some of the goalscoring threat that they lost with the departure of Luis Suarez of the summer.
So far this season Liverpool have been slightly off the pace – with a heavy defeat to Manchester City following a narrow victory over Southampton – but the hope is that Balotelli’s arrival will change this.
Liverpool won 5-0 at White Hart Lane last season and a repeat scoreline in their new striker’s maiden appearance would be the perfect way to bring some momentum back to the side.
