La Liga transfer latest: Atletico want shock Torres return as Chelsea get ready to sell

All the latest summer transfer news from La Liga...

The big news from La Liga today surrounds the departure of Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso to Bayern Munich. The 32-year-old, who made his name during a superb spell with Liverpool, has been pushed down the pecking order at the Bernabeu by the arrival of Toni Kroos from Bayern, and now Alonso appears to be heading in the opposite direction.

A €10m fee has been agreed for Alonso, who will join compatriot Pep Guardiola on a two-year deal at the Allianz Arena, as well as new signings Pepe Reina, Juan Bernat, Mehdi Benatia, Sebastian Rode and Robert Lewandowski in an immensely impressive transfer window for the reigning Bundesliga champions.

Real's cross-city rivals Atletico have had a busy summer so far, bringing in the likes of Jan Oblak, Miguel Moya, Guilherme Siqueira, Cristian Ansaldi, Jesus Gamez, Antoine Griezmann, Raul Jimenez and Mario Mandzukic as they look to retain the La Liga title, and could look to add another striker - Fernando Torres.

Torres, 30, became a household name during his time with Atletico, who he joined aged just 11. 91 goals in 244 games saw Torres earn a big move to Liverpool in 2007, but his spell with Chelsea has been massively disappointing, with the Blues set to sell the Spaniard - but whilst Atletico have reportedly enquired about Torres, they face stern competition from AC Milan, who want to make him Mario Balotelli's replacement at the San Siro.

In other news, Valencia look set to miss out on a deal to sign Manchester United playmaker Shinji Kagawa. The 25-year-old was recently criticised by new Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal, and reports today suggested that Valencia had looked to the former Borussia Dortmund man to become their latest new signing, following the likes of Joao Cancelo, Nicolas Otamendi, Andre Gomes, Rodrigo de Paul and Rodrigo Moreno to the Mestalla, but it was tonight revealed that Kagawa looks set to return to Dortmund in a £10m deal.
