United's start to the season under new boss Louis van Gaal hasn't quite gone to plan, with the opening day defeat to Swansea City a huge shock before their 1-1 draw at Sunderland on Sunday. A 4-0 loss to MK Dons in the Capital One Cup has compounded the misery for the Red Devils, leaving van Gaal to contemplate new signings ahead of Monday's transfer deadline.
Real Madrid's Argentine international Angel Di Maria has joined in a whopping £60m deal as United look to bring in new talent, but the defensive frailties of United mean that reinforcements in the backline need to be added - even after the capture of Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo.
The latest name to be linked with a move to Old Trafford is Stuttgart's German international Antonio Rudiger. The 21-year-old centre back has gradually become more and more important to Stuttgart in recent years, coming through the club's setup after joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2011.
Now a full international and a target for a number of Premier League clubs, Rudiger has been tipped to be a target for van Gaal before the transfer deadline, and the youngster says he's been dreaming of a move to the Premier League - acknowledging that United are one of the biggest clubs in the world.
"Of course I am aware of the interest from Manchester United," said Rudiger.
"They are definitely one of the top clubs in Europe and they are in a league I have been dreaming of. The Premier League is very physical, intense, breathtaking and with a lot of goals."
"My focus, though, remains on playing for Stuttgart. For now, I just have to try and progress as a player."
Should United make a move for Rudiger?
