City defender Pablo Zabaleta has heaped praise on his fellow countryman.
Zabaleta claims that United's record breaking signing from Real Madrid will be a great signing for the club.
The City full-back knows Di Maria all too well well from their time in the Argentinian national team. They played together throughout this summer's World Cup where the winger made five appearances and scored one goal.
Despite having signed for his City's arch rivals, Zabaleta is full of praise for the £59.7 million man.
He told reporters: "With Di Maria, United have signed one of those players that every single club in the world would like to sign. He's a top player.
"He has been at Real Madrid and has won a lot of trophies - he's won the Champions League and has great experience there. He's a great player, he's fast, he's direct, sets up goals and can score them.
"They are spending a lot of money but he will be a great signing for them. He has signed for United - and of course I can't say I want United to win - but I wish him the best and I hope he can play well."
Di Maria will be officially unveiled as a Manchester United player in a press conference with manager Louis van Gaal today at 3pm.
He will likely make his first appearance as a Red Devil when they travel to Premier League new boys Burnley this Saturday, and supporters will be desperate to see their star signing make an immediate impact having seen their beloved club struggle so far this season.
United fans will also be hoping that the club dips its toe into market again during the remaining few days of the transfer window. Reports have consistently linked the Reds with the likes of Arturo Vidal and Daley Blind, whilst links with Portuguese holding midfielder William Carvalho have recently resurfaced.
