All the latest summer transfer news from Serie A...
Napoli have been searching for a central midfielder all summer, and have been linked with the likes of Manchester United's Marouane Fellaini and Tottenham's Sandro - and still look to be pursuing another midfielder even after snapping up former Swansea City loanee Jonathan de Guzman.
Espanyol's David Lopez has been strongly linked with a move in the last 24 hours, but according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, manager Rafael Benitez is looking to make a swoop on former club Liverpool, and has reportedly agreed a free with the Reds to sign Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva - who Benitez brought to Anfield from Gremio in 2007.
Roma lost star centre back Mehdi Benatia to Bayern Munich this week, and Rudi Garcia's side moved to snap up Olympiacos defender Kostas Manolas as his replacement. The Greek World Cup star, who was also a target for Arsenal, admitted that he turned down a bid from Juventus upon the advice of two Greek players who have played for Roma.
"I had offers from several clubs, including Juventus," said Manolas. "However coming to Roma was my choice. I have always wanted to come here thanks to the advice of [Vasilis] Torosidis and [Traianos] Dellas. Roma was the best choice for me, I want to win a starting position as nothing has been promised."
Meanwhile, Juventus have also been linked with a move to sign Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri having missed out on now-Roma forward Juan Iturbe. However, reports today suggest that Juve have rejected the idea of swapping Shaqiri for his Swiss international team mate Stephan Lichtsteiner.
Finally, former Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has seen a move to Cagliari collapse after a medical found that he has a heart defect. The 37-year-old Spaniard left Watford at the end of last season and looked set for a move to Italy, but his career is now in jeopardy after the latest revelation.
