The £50 million rated wide man is one of several players to have been tipped to move to Old Trafford this summer and United could now go after a move, without any competition, before the transfer deadline this Monday.
“The club has officially communicated to Juan Cuadrado they’re not interested in signing him. It has done so via telephone through representative Alessandro Lucci,” reports MD.
The potential stumbling block to United’s move for Cuadrado comes in the form of the player they have just signed, Angel D Maria.
Considering Louis van Gaal’s 3-5-2 system, it’s likely that Di Maria will slot in on the left hand side of a central three in midfield.
The Argentine is good enough to control games through the middle as well as drifting out to the left hand side.
Cuadrado is a wide man and unless LvG has plans to try and turn him into a wing-back style player, it’s difficult to see where he can fit into the current system under the Dutchman.
However, United may not get a better chance to go after the player with Barcelona seemingly ruling themselves out of the race to sign him.
There is definitely going to be pressure on van Gaal up until that transfer deadline on Monday to add further players to his United squad.
The 4-0 thumping United were handed by the MK Dons in the League Cup will only lead to more calls for van Gaal and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to add further players in the transfer market.
Barca already have Neymar and Pedro who can play out on their left hand side so it’s not majorly surprising they have seemingly withdrawn from the race for the Colombian.
Do United need Cuadrado or should another player be a priority?
