On this day: No Rooney transfer request; Spurs agree personal terms for €9.5m defender

Vlad Chiriches

On the 27th August 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 27th August 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 27th August 2013…

Rooney staying

In a summer that saw Wayne Rooney heavily linked with a Manchester United exit it looked as though United would be keeping hold of their man a year ago today.

Chelsea had reportedly told the striker to force a move by handing in a transfer request, but he refused to do so and therefore it appeared this move was not on the cards.

A year ago today and a double strike from Aaron Ramsey was enough to see off Fenerbahce in the Champions League, but meanwhile, in the Transfer Market, an Arsenal target was kicking up a right fuss in Spain.

The club wanted to bring in French youngster Geoffrey Kondogbia after missing out on several other midfield options. And his club at the time, Sevilla, confirmed that the player was on his way after he 'informed the club that he will unilaterally rescind his contract.'

Four days later he joined AS Monaco for £17.2 million. Another bit the dust for Arsenal's transfer list.

Vlad's not so bad

It was reported on this day a year ago that Tottenham had agreed personal terms with Romanian Vlad Chiriches.

The €9.5 million was therefore just the subject of international clearance before it be finalised, which happened just three days later.

But his season was not perfect at White Hart Lane and a year on he is being linked with Napoli, as Tottenham look to sign his replacement Federico Fazio in the next 24 hours.

What a difference a year makes?
