Ajax Director of Football Marc Overmars has told Manchester United exactly how they can sign Daley Blind before the transfer deadline this Monday.
United have been linked with a move for the versatile defensive Dutch star since his impressive performances under Louis van Gaal following the World Cup in Brazil.
The former Gunner has suggested that if United make the right offer, which grabs Ajax’s attention, then a deal is still possible while the transfer window is active.
“We believe that we currently have a strong team and want Daley for another year. Only if a top price is paid, a transfer is negotiable,” he’s quoted by De Telegraaf.
Blind would be a great signing for several reasons but his versatility is right at the top of the list.
He’d be able to provide cover on the left hand side for the likes of Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo and can also slot into midfield to offer protection for the core of three central defenders.
Previous reports have suggested a fee of around the £15 million mark but based on the former Arsenal star’s comments, United may have to go in above that fee to try and do a deal.
With time running out in the transfer window, United’s officials have less room to bargain and negotiate which means the club will be forced to pay more for further targets.
It’s also reasonable to suggest that United’s flexing of their financial muscles this summer will make teams more likely to demand more cash from the Premier League giants.
United have paid big for each deal they have completed this summer and a fee in the region of £20 million could be around the figure United end up paying for the Dutchman.
He’s a player United could definitely use but whether they have enough time to grab Ajax’s attention and get a deal done is questionable.
Is Blind the answer to United's problems?
