Manchester City latest: Zabaleta on Champions League hope; Jovetic on reason for success

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

It is not long now until Manchester City will find out which sides they will face in this season’s Champions League group-stage.

The draw will be made on Thursday following the final qualifying games which take place this evening.

City are in Pot 2 and there is the very real possibility that they will have to overcome Real Madrid, Ajax and Roma. Then again, they could have a relatively easy path to the last-16.

Only time will tell, but in the meantime Pablo Zabeleta has been speaking about his hopes for the draw.

In an interview with Fifa’s official website, the Argentine defender said, “We know we are Manchester City and have a strong squad to play against the nest teams in Europe so we will see the draw and this time if we have a little bit more luck than the last few years.”

The prospect is there for another Group of Death, but that is far less likely than in previous seasons and Manuel Pellegrini’s side know they will have to face the best eventually if they want to transfer their domestic success onto the European stage.

And finally, Stevan Jovetic has been speaking about his early season form and revealed one possible reason for it.

As revealed by the Daily Mail, the City striker said he had spent extra hours in the gym focusing on strengthening his hamstrings after injury blighted his debut season in England.

Given the way he has started this campaign, it seems to be working.
