Prominent social media pundits make their point on resurgent Arsenal academy graduate Jack Wilshere, who shone versus Besiktas earlier this evening.
It is said to be a make-or-break season for Jack Wilshere.
The Arsenal academy graduate, 22, is clearly a player of supreme talent, however, since breaking into Arsenal's senior selection, he has failed to replicate a similar rate of development as other players in his age bracket such as Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey.
True, he has been beset by injuries and has therefore struggled to achieve consistency in his work, yet he is now being judged as an established and experienced international-level star - and his performances, last year in particular, left a lot to be desired.
Subjected to criticism from Paul Scholes, Wilshere took the negative comments on board and has largely done his talking on the pitch as, on an evening where Alexis Sanchez will likely attract the headlines for opening his Arsenal account, it was the combative, attack-minded Wilshere who inspired his team-mates with display to remember.
While Wilshere scuffed a good chance to return a goal early in the game, it was his intricate touch-and-move passing that acted as the catalyst for Sanchez's strike.
He has also attracted praise from a number of prominent social media specialists like Match of the Day anchor Gary Lineker, who said: "I stick by what I always thought about Wilshere. He's a class act who will prove his doubters wrong given a good run [in the first team] without injury."
Radio personality Stan Collymore added: "As I wrote about Wilshere on the eve of the season [all he needs is] love and responsibility and he'll be fine. [He was] good tonight."
