Rumours are heating up linking Alessio Cerci with a transfer to Arsenal.

Arsenal were surprisingly linked to Torino forward Alessio Cerci earlier this week, and talk is gathering pace regarding a potential deal.

The Evening Standard have reported that Cerci's agents have arrived in London to discuss a transfer, with the Italian side wanting 20 million for the versatile attacker.

The 27-year-old scored 13 goals and provided 10 assists for Torino last season, form which also led Everton to be linked to him recently.

Cerci was a part of Italy's World Cup squad, and earlier in his career the former Roma man was compared to Thierry Henry for his rapid pace and finishing ability, although clearly he has failed to live up to those heady expectations.

A switch to the club where a statue of the New York Red Bulls striker stands proudly outside would certainly allow him a chance to fulfil his potential.

Adding further weight to rumours of a potential move, Italian site TMW report that Cerci is not scheduled to feature in Torino's match against RNK Split on Thursday night, with no reason cited.

Cerci is not a typical centre-forward which Arsenal may consider they need to replace Olivier Giroud, like Alexis Sanchez he can play out wide, but he provides another option and has a chance of playing alongside the Frenchman when fit.

His arrival may lead Arsene Wenger to reconsider regarding Lukas Podolski, who the manager said would be staying amid rumours of a departure earlier this week.
