All the latest summer transfer news from Serie A...
The big news from Serie A today concerns the transfer of Roma defender Mehdi Benatia to Bayern Munich. The Moroccan international, 27, joined Roma from Udinese last summer and had a simply outstanding season at the Stadio Olimpico, establishing himself as one of the best centre backs in world football.
Yet with interest from a number of clubs, Benatia had his head turned and wanted a move away from the Italian capital, with Manchester United leading the race for his signature at one point. However, after Javi Martinez's injury, Bayern have taken the opportunity to add to their already impressive back line by paying around £25m to land Benatia.
Elsewhere, Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne remains the subject of transfer speculation after he was booed off the pitch by his own fans in last week's Champions League qualifier against Athletic Bilbao. Inter Milan are believed to be leading the chase for his signature, and Insigne's agent admitted that former Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri is interested in a reunion with Insigne at the San Siro.
"A move to Inter for Insigne, in exchange for Guarin? I can say that there is nothing concrete yet," said Antonio Ottaiano. "However, we have definitely noted Mazzarri’s admiration for Lorenzo."
Whilst Insigne may leave, Napoli boss Rafa Benitez is still looking for a midfielder despite signing Jonathan de Guzman last week. Liverpool's Lucas Leiva has been linked with a move to the Stadio San Paolo, but they appear to have turned their attention elsewhere with a move for Athletic Bilbao's Ander Iturraspe - who will face Napoli on Wednesday in a bid to get into the Champions League group stage.
Finally, Juventus have been locked in negotiations with Sevilla over a deal to see defender Angelo Ogbonna head to Spain, but the Turin giants have demanded €15m for the Italian international - with Arsenal also believed to be interested in a deal for the former Torino star.
