For the second season in a row, a prospect from the youth set-up at Arsenal has scored against Manchester United whilst on loan duty.
Last year, exciting Costa Rican sensation Joel Campbell, 22, enjoyed a commendable spell at OIympiacos in a year that was punctuated with a Champions League goal against United, however, the Greek club lost the two-legged tie on aggregate after losing 3-0 at Old Trafford (3-2 overall).
Benik Afobe may have just gone one better.
The 21-year-old from Kent has represented Arsenal since he was eight-years-old, graduated in the fringes of the senior selection at 2010 but then played for Huddersfield Town, Reading, Bolton Wanderers, Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday on loan.
His latest temporary transfer has seen him compete in League One for MK Dons and Afobe produced a career highlight earlier this evening, Tuesday, at the 30,500 capacity Stadium: MK by coming off the substitutes bench to score twice and secure a 4-0 League Cup victory over Manchester United.
It is, perhaps, a slight twist of irony that Arsenal have lost their primary striking weapon, Olivier Giroud, to a long-term injury on the same evening where an academy graduate looked highly competent in returning goals against one of the historically top clubs in England.
MK Dons now progress into the third round of the cup competition.
