Minor clause holding up Benatia to Bayern

Roma defender Mehdi Benatia seems to be on his way to Bayern Munich with the clubs only needing to agree a small detail to complete a deal.

Mehdi Benatia has been linked with Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United, but he looks increasingly likely to finalise a switch to Bayern Munich.

The Moroccan international impressed last season as Roma finished second in Serie A and his authoritative performances earned the attentions of several top teams.

At the start of the summer, Benatia appeared to be headed for Manchester City but no move ever materialised and the player was left unsettled.

Chelsea were reported to have bid £30 million, but that doesn't appear to be true and German giants Bayern Munich are now closing in on their man.

According to Sky Italia, Roma have already agreed a fee, which may be around the £25 million mark, and will welcome Benatia's replacement, Kostas Manolas, to the city later today.

However, the two clubs must still agree on who pays the sell-on clause payments that will be activated by the deal.

It is reported that each of Benatia's former sides, including Udinese and Marseille, will earn five percent of the fee and Roma and Bayern are yet to agree on who will pay that.

This is a relatively minor point to be settled and it seems that Benatia's long-running transfer saga could soon be at an end.
