Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Moreno performance against Manchester City

Alberto Moreno had a mixed Premier League debut for Liverpool against Manchester City.

Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno made his Premier League debut for the Reds last night as Brendan Rodgers’ side fell to a 3-1 defeat away at champions Manchester City.

Moreno looked like a decent all round full-back although he struggled at times with the pace of Premier League football, as Stevan Jovetic pounced on his failure to clear the ball, which put City ahead.

The Reds fought hard with his former side Sevilla over the price of his transfer earlier this summer, with the clubs eventually settling on a £12 million fee which allowed the Spaniard to move to Anfield.

He’ll be better for the experience he had last night and will improve as he grows more accustomed to the pace and style of the English game.

It was a harsh debut for Moreno to have to endure away at the side that pipped Liverpool to the Premier League title last season and it’s a show of the faith that Rodgers has in his new player.

What Moreno does is he provides Liverpool’s back four with a balance which was lacking at times last season.

There were numerous examples last year where Rodgers was forced to use players out of position at left-back and Moreno arriving at the club allows players to play and settle in their normal roles.

Jon Flanagan excelled in the left-back role but it would have been a farcical situation for Liverpool to progress over the start of the new season without more cover at left-back.

Things don’t get any easier as Liverpool prepare for a trip to White Hart Lane this weekend against a Tottenham side that’s looking revitalised under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino.

Moreno should be chomping at the bit for another taste of Premier League action.

Here’s what Liverpool fans made of his debut on social media site Twitter.
