Legia Warsaw rub salt in Celtic wounds with Champions League tweet

The Polish club wasted no time in posting a message on Twitter following Celtic’s 1-0 loss and exit from the Champions League at the hands of NK Maribor.

The animosity between Legia Warsaw and Celtic shows no sign of abating after the Polish team tweeted a message mocking the Scottish Premiership champions following their 1-0 defeat to NK Maribor at Celtic Park.

Marcos Tavares’ goal 15 minutes from time put the Slovenian side up 2-1 on aggregate, with the Hoops failing to find the equaliser required to take the tie to extra time.

The defeat means that Celtic drop down into the Europa League, where they could yet meet Legia Warsaw again, following their clash in the previous round of qualifying for the Champions League.

Celtic lost 6-1 on aggregate to the Poles but advanced after the second-leg result was overturned, due to Warsaw fielding an ineligible player.

That meant the Bhoys were given a 3-0 home win – exactly what was required to advance – and it would appear that Legia Warsaw have not forgiven or forgotten but are instead look only too happy to revel in the Glasgow club’s new found misery.

In a short but sharp message posted on the club’s official Twitter page, Warsaw tweeted: “#footballwon”.

Here’s hoping the two get drawn against in each other on Friday!
