Southampton linked with Arsenal target Alessio Cerci
Ronald Koeman is going head-to-head with Arsene Wenger in the pursuit of Italian attacker Alessio Cerci, according to Tuttosport.
After setting the Seria A alight last season with 13 goals and 10 assists, it was thought that Cerci would join AC Milan, but they have reportedly pulled out of the deal.
Wenger might have to really step up his interest after the recent injury to striker Olivier Giroud that could see him sidelined for up to three months. The Gunners will have the advantage in any tussle for the winger/striker as he would prefer a move to the Champions League side.
Torino are thought to be demanding a fee of around €18 million, which shouldn't be a stretch for either club.
Unwanted West Ham striker on Bournemouth radar
According to the Mirror, Bournemouth are ready to pay £1 million for Hammers striker Carlton Cole.
Despite starting both Premier League games this season and scoring one goal, Cole is set to fall down the pecking order with Enner Valencia, Diafro Sakho and Mauro Zarate reportedly ahead of him.
The Cherries would almost certainly need Cole to lower his £25,000 p/w wages, but the 30-year-old is unwilling to do so, thus placing doubt on any move.
Cole scored 6 in 26 league games last season, after rejoining West Ham on an 18 month contract when Andy Carroll suffered a lengthy injury.
Brighton bag tenth summer signing in Gary Gardner
The Seagulls have completed the loan signing of Aston Villa central midfielder Gary Gardner.
He becomes Sami Hyypia's tenth summer signing and will stay with the club until January 1st. The 22-year-old is the second player that Brighton have snapped up from Villa after full-back Joe Bennett joined the club.
Gardner has made 16 league appearances for Villa since 2011, however in the past few seasons he has barely been used and was sent on loan to Sheffield Wednesday last season where he made 3 appearances.
Portsmouth loanee hoping to extend stay
Paul Robinson has admitted he is interested in staying with Pompey after his loan spell expires in early September.
Robinson joined the Blues on a 1-month loan deal from Millwall and has been a rock int he heart of the Pompey defence, helping them keep three clean sheets in his four appearances.
The 32-year-old told the Portsmouth News: "There were other options, but Portsmouth were the club who put their cards on the table and really wanted me to join. That’s why I joined.
"It’s 28 days so it runs out in early September. Then we will have to take it from there. The clubs will sort it out in due course, but I’m here for the month and will take it from there.
"It’s getting to the time where something could happen, so hopefully the clubs can do something. It’s been fantastic to help out the group, thoroughly enjoyable."
