Stats: Lamela form 'complicates' Serie A return, says Italian press

With expensive winger now looking to come good for Tottenham Hotspur, a move back to Italy looks increasingly unlikely.

The manner in which Erik Lamela has adapted to the training ground methods of new Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has paid instant dividends on the competitive field as the Argentine forward is threatening to maintain superb form after a season in which he was sporadically-used due to abject form.

According to a report on the official website for Sky Italia journalist Gianluca di Marzio, Lamela has "new found confidence" and a "talent that is beginning to shine in the Premier League."

The results of "Pochettino's care and work are beginning to show in areas such as running, game intelligence, assists and good quality football, thus exciting the Italian [transfer] market… the road to Serie A is complicated - an uphill climb as it is difficult to think that Tottenham Hotspur [will now ratify a sale as they] would deprive themselves of a top talent."

Lamela was the man of the match against Queens Park Rangers at White Hart Lane over the weekend, a game in which Spurs emerged 4-0 winners.

Lamela finally demonstrated the form he displayed whilst representing AS Roma two years ago as he showed good running, initiated strong attacks and was precise with his crossing.

In only two Premier League appearances this season, the 22-year-old has already surpassed himself in certain areas than last year.

When it comes to game influence, Lamela is on the ball over twice as much, receiving over 60 touches of the football compared to 29 last year. He is also more accurate in his passing, his crossing and he has created a goal-scoring chance every 50 minutes this year compared to every 54 minutes last season.

When it comes to direct assists, he has returned two from two games, compared to just one from nine appearances in 2013-14.

Lamela was bought for an initial payment of £25.8 million last summer. He currently has a valuation of £21.12 million.
