Manchester United have been criticised by a number of pundits for the £60 million plus fee they are likely to pay out for Angel di Maria, but Gary Neville is confident he will be worth every penny.
Speaking to SkySports Monday Night Football, the former England defender said he believed the Argentine international is able to provide the Red Devils with just what they need.
He said: "It's crying out for the introduction of a player like him.
"Di Maria can play in the left of a three-man midfield or out wide. On the counter attack, they've lacked speed over the last 12 months, he's got massive speed. They are crying out for a player with his change of pace.
"There is talk of paying big but they need to spend big on somebody and he fits exactly what they need."
Di Maria certainly has pace to burn, he was one of the fastest 10 players at the 2014 World Cup, recording a top speed of 33 kilometres per hour.
Provider of 17 assists last season, Di Maria is a player who makes things happen on the football pitch and can bring out the best in his teammates by creating space, and pinpoint deliveries.
Neville was less enthusiastic about the signature of Juan Mata back in January who he felt was not a natural fit for United's squad of players, but with the side low on quality wingers, Di Maria can add a little bit of stardust to a squad sorely lacking it.
