Roma striker Mattia Destro has been the subject of much transfer speculation over the summer, and now his agent has hinted that a move to either Chelsea or AC Milan could be in the works.
With Jose Mourinho a keen admirer of the Italian, Claudio Vigorelli revealed that his client is ‘at the centre of some important situations which could develop’, with the two clubs named as interested parties.
‘More Milan or Chelsea? The market is unpredictable. These are two interested clubs,’ he told alfredopedulla.com.
‘Jose Mourinho admires him, while Milan could make some important steps forward very soon.’
Destro has also been linked to Tottenham Hotspur in recent months, following a season in which he scored 13 goals in 20 league games for the Serie A runners-up, after missing the start of the campaign with knee problems.
Named to Italy’s 30-man provisional World Cup squad, the 23-year-old marksman is understood to be valued at around £20 million, with Milan seeing him as an ideal replacement for the Liverpool-bound Mario Balotelli.
However, whether Chelsea would be able to work out a deal for the five-times capped international will likely depend on Fernando Torres’s future, with Vigorelli already shooting down the idea of a rumoured swap deal.
Mourinho’s intentions to sell the misfiring Spaniard are no secret but, with Roma unable to afford his hefty wages, the Blues would have to pay the £16 million left on his two-year contract in order to make a deal possible.
There have been mixed reports on whether Destro is open to a switch to Stamford Bridge at this point but, regardless, it appears the situation surrounding Torres could put paid to a potential move during the summer transfer window at least.
