Manchester United treble winner Dwight Yorke has backed Angel di Maria to help get the best out of Juan Mata.
Mata cost the Red Devils £37 million earlier this year, and Di Maria's reported £63 million fee would take the fee for the pair to a staggering £100 million.
The former Trinidad and Tobago international told SkySports he can see them linking up with great success:
"He (Mata) needs to step up to the plate and do the things that attracted Man United to him - getting on the ball and supplying the strikers – and I think Di Maria will help him.
"Man United look an average team at the moment as they are passing the ball sideways, taking the easy option and becoming too predictable and easy to play against.
"But Di Maria will go past people, take the ball 20 yards up the pitch and create space for Mata, who at the moment gets quite stifled.”
Mata has scored seven times in his last eight games for United, but Yorke is right that the Spaniard has been below par in terms of supplying the strikers.
The Spaniard played more passes to Darren Fletcher than any other player against Sunderland, and failed to link up with striker Robin van Persie to any effect.
Di Maria's presence and driving runs will create more space for Mata to do what he does best, and if the addition of the Argentine does allow him and others to unlock their potential, the hefty fee will be money well spent.
