Gary Neville: Manchester United need world class Di Maria

Gary Neville believes Manchester United need to buy Angel Di Maria.

Former Manchester United player Gary Neville has told Sky Sports of his admiration for Angel Di Maria and believes his old club need to buy him even if they overpay.

The Real Madrid star looks to be on his way to United after reportedly saying his goodbyes to his Galactico teammates.

The Spanish publication Marca state that a €75 million deal plus €15 million in incentives have been agreed between the clubs, and the Argentine star is to travel to Manchester tomorrow with an official announcement likely to be confirmed on Monday or Tuesday.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Gary Neville believes Di Maria will give the Red Devils a huge boost of quality in the wide areas and that it’s important a deal is concluded.

He said: “United for me have been about wingplay and fast play for the past 20 years, but they’ve lost a lot of their speed.”

“You look at the wingers in the last couple of years, Ryan Giggs has retired, Nani and Ji-Sung Park have left - Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young are the wing backs today but they have lost confidence to play in that higher position over the last 12 months”

”So you’re talking about Di Maria who I think is a genuinely world class winger, they definitely need a wide player of quality and everyone is having to overpay, United are having to overpay for people over the last 12 months I think it’s important to get him.”

Last season, Di Maria contributed with 17 La Liga assists and played a major role in Real Madrid landing their tenth Champions League crown in history.

The 26-year-old was clearly a popular figure amongst his teammates at the Santiago Bernabeu with Brazilian left-back Marcelo writing on Twitter: “Thanks for everything you have done for Madrid, you are great my brother, I love you.”
