Tottenham are looking to bring in one of Europe's most promising defenders in Fabian Schar as the club continue to rebuild the defence.
Fabian Schar has been linked with moves to several European giants in the past after some impressive displays for FC Basel during his two seasons at the club, and Spurs are now reportedly hoping to secure his services.
Tottenham's director of football Franco Baldini was in Switzerland last week to watch Schar take on FC Sion and the Italian is now hoping that he can convince Daniel Levy to make a move for the young defensive star.
Federico Fazio is expected to join Spurs after the club reportedly met the Sevilla defender's €10 million release clause, and Schar would further strengthen the backline.
The Lilywhites were also reportedly keen to acquire Villarreal's Mateo Musacchio, but that move looks to have fallen through as a result of third party ownership complications.
Fazio and Schar would give the club two solid centre-backs and would surely see Michael Dawson and Vlad Chiriches move on, as the pair are linked with moves to Hull City and AS Roma respectively.
At 22, Schar would be an exciting addition and would add to Mauricio Pochettino's young defenders that have already been signed this summer.
Eric Dier, Ben Davies and DeAndre Yedlin have all be signed to build a solid Spurs defence for the long run and the addition of Schar would only improve the side.
Schar - who made two World Cup appearances for Switzerland this summer, is always a threat in the air from set-pieces and is quick to recover at the back.
If Spurs can secure his services they will have added one of Europe's most promising young defenders to their ranks, but a deal will have to be agreed before the end of the transfer window in just over a week's time.
