Chelsea's Fernando Torres reportedly on shortlist to replace Serie A star

Chelsea's Fernando Torres is reportedly one of the players earmarked to potentially replace Mario Balotelli at AC Milan.

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres is reportedly on a six-man shortlist to replace the seemingly Liverpool-bound Mario Balotelli.

The Italian international is said to be closing in on a £16million move to Anfield, which will leave AC Milan needing to find a new frontman.

The latest claims come from newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, which has published the names of the players Milan are said to be considering a move for should their enigmatic striker head back to England.

On the list, along with Chelsea’s Torres are fellow Premier League stars Javier Hernandez and Roberto Soldado, as well as Mattia Destro, Jackson Martinez and Luis Muriel.

Despite Soldado’s poor first season in England it seems highly unlikely Tottenham will sell him so soon, while Hernandez could still have a future at Old Trafford if Danny Welbeck leaves.

FC Porto have already ruled out a move for Martinez, which means Torres could be one of the few realistic targets on Milan’s supposed list.

The Chelsea player has not enjoyed the best of times in recent seasons – despite winning a whole host of club honours.

On an individual level he has failed to get anywhere near the halcyon days of his early time at Anfield, and following the signings of Diego Costa and Didier Drogba it would be no surprise if Torres left Stamford Bridge.
