Arsenal transfer news: Cavani targeted and Khedira admits exit possible

All the latest transfer news and gossip from The Emirates Stadium.

After the injury suffered by Olivier Giroud yesterday it was inevitable that strikers were going to be linked with The Gunners this morning. And it is an old face doing the rounds with Edinson Cavani apparently the man wanted by Arsene Wenger.

Cavani is said to want a move in order to play in his favoured central striking role.

However, Arsenal will have to pay an extortionate amount for the player, whose wages would also be a major stumbling block to any deal.

Arsenal are said to be looking for a central defender before the end of the transfer window. Many names have been linked but there has now been developments in the race for a Thomas Vermaelen replacement.

Greek international defender Kostas Manolas has been the subject of interest from Arsenal all week, and it now appears that he could be on his way, after he missed Olympiakos' opening game of the Greek season.

Valued at £8 million Manolas is also being tracked by teams in Germany and Italy.

However, other reports are now suggesting that Winston Reid is now their number one target. He would cost around the same but has Premier League experience.

The West Ham United New Zealand international is out of contract next summer and The Hammers are said to be interested in selling the player.

Finally, and Sami Khedira has hinted he could leave Real Madrid amid interest from Arsenal.

The German World Cup winner stated:

"Right now I'm a little out of Real Madrid. But until August 31 anything is possible."

Bayern Munich are however keen, and would prove a big rival in his pursuit.
