The former striker believes the capture of Angel Di Maria would bring back the United of old.
The Argentine is reportedly close to securing a move from the Bernabeu to Old Trafford, with a fee of between £40-55 million being quoted.
And Owen, who used to turn out for United under Sir Alex Ferguson, believes Di Maria would fit the bill for Louis van Gaal's side.
According to the footballer turned pundit, the 26-year-old's pace in attack would bring back the 'United of old.'
However, Owen also expects Van Gaal to bring in another defender.
"Huge signing if Di Maria joins Manchester United," Owen wrote on Sportlobster.
"They need pace in their attack, like the United of old. Surely there is a defender in the pipeline too?"
In terms of defensive options, several players have been linked with a move to Old Trafford but very few appear to be genuine options.
Aston Villa's Ron Vlaar, though, is a defender that has been tipped to join the man who coached him at the Netherlands during the World Cup.
