Southampton and West Bromwich Albion drew 0-0 on Saturday afternoon.

It was honours shared at St Mary's on Saturday afternoon as Southampton and West Bromwich Albion played out a goalless draw.

Chances were at a premium with only four shots on target in the whole match, two apiece.  While the home side had the majority of the ball, with 58% possession compared with West Brom's 42%.

The visitors can be proud of their defensive performance and will no doubt go back to The Hawthorns happy with their day's work.  But it could have been even better had summer signing Brown Ideye put away a good chance.

Instead Fraser Forster saved for Ronald Koeman's men, who will need to be far more effective in front of goal in the months ahead.

A fine opening weekend performance against Liverpool suggested the Saints were on for a good season.  But today's performance was rather less eye-catching.
