La Liga transfer latest: Barcelona closing in on latest signing

All the latest summer transfer rumours from La Liga...

Most of today's news from La Liga surrounds Real Madrid's pending departures. The first of those is that of Angel di Maria, who looks to be drawing ever closer to a move to Manchester United having been forced out of the Bernabeu over the course of the last 12 months. Carlo Ancelotti's side brought in Tottenham winger Gareth Bale last summer, only for di Maria to reinvent himself as a central midfielder.

Now though, with the arrivals of Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos and Monaco's James Rodriguez, di Maria is once again being forced out of the Madrid side, and new United boss Louis van Gaal is attempting to make the Argentine international his marquee signing this summer.

Di Maria joined in 2010 along with German midfielder Sami Khedira, but it seems that both could be leaving following the new signings at the Bernabeu. Khedira has been linked with moves to Arsenal, Chelsea and Bayern Munich in recent weeks, but now Napoli have reportedly joined the race for his signature.

Elsewhere, Barcelona are trying to secure some new signings given that they will have a 16 month transfer ban following the end of this transfer window. Sao Paulo right back Douglas is the club's preferred target as they look to land a long-term successor to his compatriot Dani Alves at the Camp Nou, and reports in Catalunya today suggest that Douglas will join the club this week, though he may head back to Brazil on loan.

Finally, Valencia's summer overhaul has already seen the likes of Jeremy Mathieu and Juan Bernat leave, with Benfica trio Joao Cancelo, Andre Gomes and Rodrigo Moreno arriving as new manager Nuno looks to improve his squad at the Mestalla. Reports today believe that Mexican international Andres Guardado is set to leave the club again, this time on loan to PSV Eindhoven having spent the second half of last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen.
