For those of you who are unlucky enough not to know what The Witcher is, I'll explain; The Witcher is a popular series of short stories and novels written by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. The books centre around the character Geralt of Rivia, a witcher, and incorporate a dark fantasy universe filled with mythical beasts and monsters.
Witchers are specially-trained monster-hunters that wield supernatural abilities in order to hunt down their monster prey. The books have been adapted into a movie previously, as well as a TV Show, which I believe weren't too well received.
Probably the most successful adaptations have been the video games; The Witcher, and The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings. A third video game is currently being developed, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which is due for release in February 2015.
Thenews.pl reported on the announcement that Tomasz Baginski is working on a new film based on The Witcher novels. They state that the news was confirmed by Platige Image studio, where Baginski is creative director, after a note appeared on the Polish Film Institute's website. Platige Image also stated the film will involve actors, but nothing was said about how much animation would be involved.
Now, if you're a fan of the books, comics, or games, the news that Baginski is working on a new film based on the series should be exciting news. As I mentioned above, Baginski directed the intros to the previous Witcher games, which I have put for you below. He also directed the teaser trailer (below)for the game Cyberpunk 2077, which is currently in development.
Based purely on the videos below, fans should be optimistic about Baginski's involvement in a Witcher movie.
