We can get more out of Ramsey than Fabregas - Wenger

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes he can get more out of Aaron Ramsey than he did current Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

Arsene Wenger could not escape his weekly press conference without being asked what it was like to see Cesc Fabregas in a Chelsea shirt.

The Frenchman admitted it was 'strange', but preferred to focus on the positives - mainly being Aaron Ramsey's progression.

The Welshman came into his own last season, whereas his poor performances at the start of the previous campaign, he was played mainly on the right.

With Fabregas around, Ramsey may not have had the opportunity to play regularly in the centre of midfield and take the huge strides he did in 2013/14.

Wenger told ESPN: "What is good in life is that someone moves out and someone else takes over and he has developed.

"Ramsey has a different style to Fabregas, but he has developed into a player with huge potential. There is more coming out of Ramsey. He is younger than Cesc and the potential is there to get more out of him."

Wenger's comments that he can get more out of Ramsey certainly grab the attention, and there are two possible ways to construe them.

One, that he is taking a dig at Cesc, saying that Ramsey has the potential to be an even better player, or more successful footballer for Arsenal, than Fabregas was.

Two, that he believes, simply that Ramsey will stick around and have more success by virtue of longeivity, than Cesc did, who walked out on the club at a crucial stage in his career.

Either way, it appears that Wenger is confident enough that the decision will not set the Gunners back in their pursuit of success this coming campaign.
