Erik Lamela has been in great form in pre-season and against AEL Limassol last night. Are QPR next?
Tottenham Hotspur won their first-leg play-off tie against AEL Limassol in the searing heat of Cyprus yesterday, in what proved to be a tough tie against a Cypriot side who gave Andre Villas-Boas's Zenit St Petersburg trouble in Champions League qualifying.
But Spurs were indebted to a player who has not exactly been a top buy since his arrival at the club.
Erik Lamela has failed to shine since his £30 million arrival from AS Roma last summer. He spent most of last season away from the first-team with injury and personal problems cited as the main issues.
But with a fellow Argentine in charge in the form of Mauricio Pochettino the talented playmaker has been tipped to have a better season, but after his performance against West Ham at the weekend fans were struggling to believe that would be the case.
But he was introduced yesterday in the 71st minute and assisted both goals in the comeback, with Pochettino stating:
“It is never easy in the first season for a player from another country. It is true that it was difficult for him. He was very disappointed about last season but the past is the past. We need him to look forward, believe in his skill and work very, very hard. With confidence and time he will show his value. We are confident with him that with hard work, like he has done in pre-season, that he can go far.”
And now Lamela has taken to Twitter to highlight his joy at Tottenham's second victory of the season:
Joy to win again! Now thinking about the next game! Que alegría volver a ganar, ahora a pensar en el… http://t.co/NMJE14vGKY— Erik Manuel Lamela (@Coco_Lamela) August 22, 2014
Spurs fans will be hoping Lamela can fire the club to victory against QPR this weekend.
