Here are five of the best players to have been linked with moves to Chelsea this past week.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho deserves a lot of credit for getting the majority of the club’s transfer business out of the way early.
The blues lined up with a very strong team for the game at Burnley earlier this week and they continue to be linked with players who can improve the first team and the outlook of the squad as a whole.
We’ve taken a look at the transfer rumour mill to produce five of the best names to be linked with joining the club this past week.
Sami Khedira (Real Madrid)
Mourinho has recently played down Chelsea’s chances of signing Khedira from his former club because he believes the German has an agreement with Arsenal. However, Khedira’s rejection of a new contract at the European champions means Chelsea are well within their rights to make a move.
Paul Pogba (Juventus)
There have been lingering reports all summer over Chelsea’s interest in the former Manchester United midfielder. Rated at £60 million, it would be an expensive deal for the Blues to try and do, made all the more difficult by reports the Frenchman has started talks over a new deal with the Serie A champions.
William Carvalho (Sporting Lisbon)
An alternative for Chelsea if they are unsuccessful or not interested in Khedira is the £35 million rated William Carvalho. Some reports even suggested towards the start of the week that the Blues had already made an offer for the Portuguese World Cup star who is also linked with a move to Arsenal.
Mattia Destro (Roma)
Destro is at the heart of a proposed swap deal which could see Fernando Torres heading off to Roma. Destro is one of the most talented players in Serie A but whether he’d be happy to move to the Blues as their third choice striker is doubtful considering his talent and potential.
Lucas Silva (Cruzeiro)
One of the traits of this current Mourinho side is the way they snap up the best talent from all over the world. Lucas Silva is an example of the sort of player Chelsea have chosen to invest in during Mourinho’s second spell at the club but they are reportedly battling against Spurs to get a deal done.
