Real Madrid are taking on Atletico Madrid tonight at the Vicente Calderon in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup, with the game still poised at 1-1 from the first leg.
While James Rodriguez, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo are the marquee names at The Bernabeu Diego Simeone recently spoke about one player he fears from the Real line-up - Angel Di Maria.
And he has good reason to. The Argentine is perhaps one of European football's most under-rated players. but Simeone can need not fear according to several reports today, which suggest that the winger will not play this evening as debate over his future at the club continues.
It has been reported by Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, who often have the inside track on all things Real related, that Di Maria will not even be in the squad for the game, sparking similar rumours to the ones that spawned last week when Sami Khedira watched from the stands.
This is despite Di Maria being named in the squad earlier this week, reports suggesting he is not in the right state of mind to feature.
BREAKING | Di Maria will not play against Atletico today. He will not even sit on the bench. [Cadena COPE]— SocialRMadrid (@SocialRMadrid) August 22, 2014
Weren't Cadena COPE first to break Herrera-United and Thiago-Bayern? Meh, not getting my hopes up until I see Di Maria in that United shirt.— Ze (@Yanoozaj) August 22, 2014
It is even suggested Di Maria will not even be at the Vicente Calderon tonight, after it was confirmed by Carlo Ancelotti yesterday that he had requested a transfer away from the Spanish capital - all good news for Manchester United fans.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with his signature this summer, with United boss Louis van Gaal known to be a big fan of his.
Now it is looking increasingly likely that he will be on his way this summer. The ball is in Manchester United's court to make the first move.
