Liverpool latest: Mario Balotelli at Melwood, gets Jose Mourinho’s blessings

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from Anfield...

AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli has arrived at Melwood ahead of a move to Liverpool.

The Italy international is expected to sign a contract worth £90,000 a week, with the Reds to pay £16 million as transfer fee.

The 24-year-old former Manchester City striker has been pictured at Liverpool’s training ground, with Sky Sports cameras catching him entering the facility in a car.

Balotelli worked with current Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan, and the Portuguese has wished the striker the best of luck at Liverpool.

‘I don’t speak about players from other clubs’, Insidefutbol quotes him as saying in a press conference. ‘He is a Milan player signing for Liverpool, or already a Liverpool player. The only thing I say is that I wish my former players the best and with Mario it’s no different’.

Balotelli may not be available for Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Monday, but manager Brendan Rodgers is confident of a victory over the English champions.

The Northern Irishman has underlined how the Reds need to play against one of the favourites for this season’s title.

‘The nature of both teams is an offensive game, but they're normally tight games’, Rodgers told reporters. 'If you look at both sets of players, there's lots of invention and creativity in the team. Both teams will be creative and want to score goals.

‘We know we need to be compact and solid when we haven't got the ball, we need to be aggressive and press well. That's the nature of our game/ We know we have the freedom, movement and pace that can hurt teams’.

Rodgers has also taken the Ice Bucket Challenge along with defender Martin Skrtel, videos of which you can watch below:
