Liverpool’s deal for Mario Balotelli has been rightly praised as a tremendous piece of business by Brendan Rodgers.
Rodgers has reacted well to secure a top quality striker who should help fill the void created by Luis Suarez’s departure to Barcelona earlier on in the summer.
Balotelli has experience of Premier League football and he knows all about the Champions League, which is likely to be one of the main motives behind his move to Anfield.
The Italian is a popular player with Premier League fans for his antics away from the pitch, which is something the Reds are keen to address.
Reports suggest that the contract Balotelli is likely to sign with Liverpool will include a clause related to a code of conduct.
In short, Liverpool want complete commitment from the Italian both on and off the field.
When news broke of the deal yesterday, the main criticism of the transfer related to Balotelli’s behaviour and the risk that he could damage the team spirit Rodgers has created at the club.
Balotelli has now been sold by three clubs in the form of Inter Milan, Manchester City and now AC Milan, which suggests there are serious questions over his attitude despite the fact he’s now 24-years-old.
It’s unclear over how the Italian will line-up in Liverpool’s attack but there could be a throwback to the system used last season.
Balotelli is unlikely to play down either side of the attack for Liverpool, which could mean Daniel Sturridge plays off to one side as he did with Suarez throughout last season.
It’s an exciting deal because as Balotelli’s former coach Roberto Mancini once said, if he applies himself in the right way, Balotelli could become the best attacking player in the world.
Here’s what Liverpool fans have made of the deal on Twitter.

£16m for someone with Balotelli’s talent seems good value. Will cost extra £££ though for all the fireworks/go-karts he wants. #FB— Andrew Yee (@andrewyee) August 21, 2014
