Mauricio Pochettino has spent the summer shoring up the Tottenham defence as Ben Davies, Michel Vorm, Eric Dier and DeAndre Yedlin have all be signed.
The Argentine boss has also been keen on securing the services of Villarreal centre-back Musacchio, but a deal for the 23-year-old looks to be off as there have been difficulties surrounding the player's third party ownership.
Sevilla's Fazio is now reportedly being lined up as an alternative and Tottenham could complete a deal by the end of the weekend if the 27-year-old's £8 million release clause is met.
Both Argentine defenders play in Spain and Pochettino must be behind the club's advances for both, but how does Fazio compare to the Villarreal man?

Fazio made more clearances per appearance than Musacchio last season, but the 23-year-old won more tackles and just edged the Sevilla man in interceptions made per game as well.
Fazio is 6ft 5ins tall and will likely adapt to life in the Premier League better than Musacchio, but it would appear that Spurs are not getting as competent a defender in the Sevilla man as they would if they signed the Villarreal defender.
Both have made two appearances for the Argentina national side but have been consistent at club level for a number of years.
If Fazio completes a switch to Spurs, he will hope to force his way into the starting lineup on a regular basis, but he will have to see off strong competition from Younes Kaboul, Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier, who all seem to be in Pochettino's plans.
