Tottenham Hotspur latest, interest in Welbeck, no bid for Remy

A selection of the latest stories surrounding Tottenham Hotspur this Friday evening.

Tottenham are interested in Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck according to the London Evening Standard, with North London rivals Arsenal also reportedly interested in the England international.

Many reports have suggested that United have told Welbeck he can leave the club, but whether he will be allowed to leave for rivals who are competing for the title and Champions League places remains to be seen.

They quote an Old Trafford source, which says: “United are happy to let him go but would prefer it was to a club that won’t be fighting for a Champions League place by the end of the season.

“But the reality is that there are plenty of top clubs who will be very interested in signing Danny.”

Spurs have also been linked with Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy in recent days but their manager Harry Redknapp said there hasn't been a bid for the Frenchman.

TalkSport have picked up on comments from Redknapp's pre-match conference ahead of the game with Spurs, where he said:

"There's been no Tottenham enquiry – there's been talk of the chairman talking to Daniel, but certainly I've not been involved.

"We wouldn't be looking to shift Loic if we can help it - we want to keep him."

Midfielder Tom Carroll has signed for Swansea City on loan for the season, whilst a deal to sign Sevilla defender Federico Fazio appears to be in place. TalkSport are one of a number of sources reporting that.

Spurs were in Europa League action last against AEL Limassol, and won the first leg of their play-off tie against the Cypriot side.

Hugo Lloris captained the side and has been speaking to the Tottenham website about the extra responsibility placed upon him.

He said: “It’s a mark of confidence from the manager and from my team-mates but maybe it was just the story of the night. There are some important senior players in the team and we have to be an example and show our team-mates the right way."
