Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to beat AEL Limassol 2-1 last night, as they took a commanding position in the qualifying tie for the Europa League.
Spurs went into the game as heavy favourites to beat their Cypriot opponents, but fell behind early on after Adrian Sardinero finished well for the hosts.
However, they battled back to claim a vital win – with two of their under-pressure stars playing prominent roles in the victory.
Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela have been heavily criticised after poor debut seasons in England last year, following big money transfers, but they were both influential in Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s success yesterday.
Soldado scored the equaliser for Spurs, before Harry Kane rifled home a winner late on, with Lamela claiming both assists after coming off the substitutes’ bench.
It is a win which should give the faltering duo some much needed confidence that they can prove their critics wrong and have an impact in the Premier League this season.
Pochettino’s side take on QPR on Sunday and they should be full of confidence after showing their battling qualities last night.
