Both teams face an early test of their pre-season aspirations when they meet at Goodison Park this weekend, with the Blues looking to stake an early claim for their Champions League ambitions.
Meanwhile, the Gunners have hopes of winning the title following their summer spending - which included the £32 million capture of Sanchez from Barcelona.
Arsene Wenger has added Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and David Ospina to his ranks this summer, but it is the arrival of the Chile international that has really set pulses racing at the Emirates.
Sanchez is a striker of world-class ilk, and he will be expected to contribute heavily this coming term as Wenger's side look to win their first title for 11 years.
The threat posed by the former Udinese star is something that Martinez is preparing for ahead of this Saturday's evening game at Goodison Park.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the former Wigan manager said: “Alexis Sanchez has that big game mentality. You don't know how quickly they are going to be adapt but he is electric. He is a top player."
Martinez also believes that the game will be a good measuring stick of his side's capabilities this term after they began their season with a disappointing 2-2 draw with Leicester City last Saturday.
“The game is going to rely heavily on how we can play and how well we can perform," he added.
"What we want to set is really high standards in every game we go into. We need to replicate the level of performance from when we faced them at Goodison last season.”
