Predicted Liverpool XI to play Manchester City - Rodgers to stick with same eleven?

Match to be played on Monday 25th August 2014 at 20:00. Venue: Etihad Stadium, Manchester.

Liverpool will head into the Premier League clash at Manchester City confident after an opening day win against Southampton.

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool adopt a similar approach at the Etihad to last season where they play open and attacking football or shut up shop, playing for a secure and safe point.

We’ve had a go at naming the potential side.

GK – Simon Mignolet

The Belgian is Liverpool’s number one and there’s no sign of that changing any time soon.

RB – Javier Manquillo

He’ll be better for having his first game of Premier League football under his belt. He’ll be important defensively and getting forward to provide width.

CB – Martin Skrtel

Skrtel is a defender Rodgers knows he can rely on to do the basics of defending effectively throughout any big game.

CB – Dejan Lovren

He looked relatively solid throughout the game against the Saints. He’s a good player to have on the ball, moving it forward from the backline.

LB – Glen Johnson

Johnson could continue to deputise at left-back with Jon Flanagan injured and Alberto Moreno working on his match fitness.

RM – Raheem Sterling

Sterling has to play because he’s one of the biggest and quickest attacking threats that Liverpool have. He east up the space on the counter attack.

CM – Lucas

Lucas injects calm and experience into the midfield. He’ll most likely sit as the deepest of the midfielders.

CM – Jordan Henderson

Henderson will work his socks off in this game and cover where players fall out of position. He’s arguably Liverpool’s most versatile player.

CM – Steven Gerrard

This is a big game for the Liverpool captain considering the big performances he put in against some of Liverpool’s title rivals last season.

LM – Philippe Coutinho

Coutinho provides control from the left hand side. He can turn this game in a second so the Reds will more than likely try and get him in possession as much as possible.

ST – Daniel Sturridge

Sturridge seemed to thrive in the role of having the main starting spot up front against Southampton. It’s another chance for him to prove a point against a former club.
