1) Manchester United interested in Ron Vlaar
Manchester United are reportedly lining up an offer for Aston Villa’s Ron Vlaar.
The 29-year-old was part of Louis van Gaal’s Holland squad at the World Cup, where he was hugely impressive, and it seems that the new United boss could try and bring him to Old Trafford with him.
Villa are understood to be determined to keep hold of the defender, but he has just 12 months remaining on his contract and if a big money offer comes in they may be forced to sell, as a result.
Southampton are also keen on signing the no-nonsense centre-back.
2) Mark Hughes praises new signing
Mark Hughes believes that new loan singing Victor Moses can have a major impact at Stoke City.
The Nigerian winger completed a move from Chelsea on a temporary basis earlier in the window and the Potters’ boss has already identified his quality.
“Victor is a really good player – I think that goes without saying,” Hughes told the club's official site.
“He is incredibly powerful, he has really good pace too and he can cause a lot of problems to the opposition."
“We are really pleased that he is here with us, because like a few of the other lads we have in the squad he is able to come up with something a little bit different.”
3) Goals will come for Anichebe
Alan Irvine believes that the goals will start flowing for Victor Anichebe soon.
The new West Bromwich Albion manager has been impressed by the powerful striker during his time at the club so far, but Anichebe’s scoring record since moving to the Hawthorns isn’t particularly impressive.
Irvine says that this is starting to affect the former Everton man, but he believes that he will start hitting the back of the net regularly soon.
“I think he will score,” Irvine said. “I think there is an anxiety."
“He was so upset about the one on Saturday where he rolled their lad and pulled it past the post."
“He was in afterwards and looking at the clips and thinking, how have I done that?"
“But he had got himself into that position. I thought he was really good for us at the weekend."
“I think people are noticing his work-rate and the tireless stuff he is doing. I have been really pleased with him in pre-season and I think he is going to be a big player for us, quite literally!”
4) Riyad Mahrez will be a Premier League hit, says Nigel Pearson
Leicester City boss, Nigel Pearson, has backed Riyad Mahrez to be a hit in the Premier League.
“He is a talented boy, there is no doubt about that," he said.
"My job as a manager is to make sure I protect my players and make sure they are exposed to a level of expectations internally that, maybe, is building on the outside."
"I have no doubt that he can deliver in the Premier League, but I also understand where he is at as a young man learning his trade."
5) Wolves not bothered by lack of signings
Kenny Jackett has revealed that the form of his Wolverhampton Wanderers team is meaning that signing new players is not a priority.
Wolves beat Fulham last night with an excellent display and were fully worth their 1-0 victory at the side who were only relegated from the Premier League last season.
It means that they are under no pressure to do any further business this summer, despite only bringing in two players so far, as they are already picking up the points in the Championship.
“We’re not worrying about making changes to the side because, at the moment, the players are making it difficult to replace them,” Jackett said. “But if we can replace them with better players we will.”
Do Wolves need signings? Would Vlaar make the grade at Old Trafford?
